In continuing to build on the ever-escalating hoopla surrounding the auto-lacing Nike MAG, we now get word from the shoe’s designer – the legendary Tinker Hatfield – regarding the adaptive lacing technology that was made for the footwear. Alongside Senior Innovator Tiffany Beers, the two reveal how the sneaker became a passion project designed to aid in the fight against Parkinson’s disease.

The above clip highlights insights from the aforementioned Nike employees, as they speak on early design troubles with the Nike MAG, how they ultimately overcame these roadblocks, and excitement surrounding what is to come.

And in case you missed it, Nike is making 89 pairs of the auto-lacing MAGs available later this month, and all you have to do for a chance to land a pair is purchase a $10 USD ticket, with proceeds going to raise funds for the fight against Parkinson’s disease.
