Mad Men fans will already be accustomed to Elisabeth Moss knocking it out the park when it comes to playing the role of the underdog, which is why we’re so excited about upcoming drama The Handmaid’s Tale.

The show is based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel about a dystopian future in which the U.S. government has been overthrown by a fundamentalist regime (does that sound familiar?!) and women are subsequently enslaved as handmaids (i.e. sex slaves.) In the first long-length teaser, we can see Moss subjugated in some kind of commune, while we also get a first glimpse of the theocratic ruling classes. Surprisingly, a Kid Cudi track is used as the background music to epic effect.

Eerily prescient is the fact Atwood initially penned the book as a rebuke to the proliferation of extreme-right religious groups in the 1980s. Eek. Currently, the novel sits at number one in the Amazon book charts.
