As evidenced by its used, clunky sneakers and Bernie Sanders-inspired FW17 collection, Balenciaga has not been shy in thinking outside the box of late. That mostly boils down to Demna Gvasalia — the Vetements chieftain who has sought to revolutionize the French fashion house since assuming the role of creative director in 2015.
Always pushing the envelope, Gvasalia’s latest talking point is arguably his most daring yet: a $2,145 blue tote bag that looks exactly like the type you’d find in IKEA.
All comparisons end there, however. Unlike the polypropelene “FRAKTA” holdall, the Balenciaga extra-large shopper comes in wrinkled and glazed blue leather with leather handles and straps. Made in Italy, additional touches of luxury include a gold-stamped logo and an interior keyring lanyard.
