adidas' Chromed-Out Ballet Sneaker Is Too Pretty to Fight
If metallic moments were currency, adidas would be rich in more ways than one. The Taekwondo Mei Elite is a chrome-coated take on the Three Stripes' sleekest martial arts sneaker.
As far as flatness is concerned, the Taekwondo takes adidas' whole slim sneaker thing to a new low, which is pretty hard to do considering just how close to the earth adidas plays it.
The Taekwondo Mei Elite, available on the adidas website for $110, has a thin, arched outsole that hugs the contours of the foot for enhanced agility and really good foot feel. Unlike the standard Taekwondo Mei, the Taekwondo Mei Elite features a quilted upper and asymmetrical laces.
The tonal Three Stripes wraps all the way around the sneaker, and the stitched wave paneling gives the Taekwondo some futuristic elevation.
Flat sneakers are one of adidas' best style exports, and the Taekwondo is an undisputed hard hitter in that respect. And that's not just because the Taekwondo Mei Elite was designed for performance taekwondo.
The Taekwondo Mei Elite's style lore actually extends far beyond the confines of the ring. Its slim style allows the Taekwondo sneaker to maneuver in different spaces, including the balletcore movement, thanks to its low profile and barefoot-esque build.
Add on a Bad Bunny co-sign for the original Taekwondo Mei and boom: A star sneaker is born.
Beyond all of this, though, the silver colorway is undoubtedly the best part of this sneaker because nothing puts an adidas sneaker on the fast track to GOAT status quite like a chrome colorway. Just ask Wales Bonner.
adidas is heavy in its Tin Man era — just with a whole lot more heart.
