We were first introduced to Córka Rybaka through thisispaper, our favorite Polish mag/lifestyle brand. Translated to "fisherman's daughter," Córka Rybaka is a one-person company headed by Monika Kucel, who knits each and every beanie by hand in her apartment. She founded CR after a trip to Sicily, where she met a beanie-wearing man in his 70's who claimed that young people these days wouldn't be able to knit with "real manual skills." Kucel wanted to prove him wrong.
Using only the highest quality 100% Peruvian Highland Wool, Kucel limits her beanies to a quantity of 10 per seasonal color, with red and navy always available. For this Fall/Winter 2014, she chose rose, mustard, sky blue, and wine next to black and off-white. We think she succeeded in proving the man wrong.
