Dapper Dan has made an official statement following the backlash against Gucci‘s “blackface” sweater. The polo neck was pulled from stores last week after social media users had pointed out its resemblance to blackface.

On Instagram, Gucci collaborator Dapper Dan shared his reaction to the sweater, writing, “There is no excuse nor apology that can erase this kind of insult.”

In his post, Dapper Dan revealed that Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri is going to meet with him and community leaders in Harlem this week. “There cannot be inclusivity without accountability,” the designer’s note continues. “I will hold everyone accountable.”

After the backlash, Gucci posted an apology on Twitter, writing that it intended to turn the incident into a “powerful learning moment for the Gucci team and beyond.”
