Highsnobiety

As one of the most well-known and respected female filmmakers working today, Kathryn Bigelow returns from a five-year hiatus - last dazzling the world with Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker for which she remains the only woman to win the Best Director Oscar - to present a look at the 1967 race riots in Detroit.

Starring an ensemble which features John Bodega, Jason Mitchell, Jacob Latimore, John Krasinski and Anthony Mackie, Detroit focuses on a five-day riot which resulted in 43 reported deaths, 1,000 injuries and between $40-$50 million USD in property damage - specifically highlighting the death of three young men by the police known as "the Algiers Motel killings."

Detroit hits theaters August 4 - mere days after the 50th anniversary of the riot.
