Plans to reboot the iconic and deranged 1997 classic Face/Off are currently underway at Paramount Pictures, Deadline reports. Unfortunately, however, it doesn't sound as though John Travolta, Nicolas Cage, nor any of the other original cast members will be reprising their roles.
Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street, Sonic the Hedgehog) has been tapped to pen the new script, Neal Moritz (The Fast and the Furious) is set to produce and David Permut (who produced the original movie) is on board as executive producer.
The original film was directed by John Woo (Mission: Impossible II) and followed an absolutely insane premise. To briefly summarize, Travolta stars as Sean Archer, an FBI agent on a mission to catch Nicolas Cage's villainous character, Castor Troy, who has hidden a bomb.
When a plane crashes and injures Troy, Agent Archer jumps on the opportunity to surgically remove his own face and replace it with Troy's so he can go undercover and get information about the bomb from Troy's associates. However, while on the mission, real Troy awakes, discovers his face is missing, and forces the surgeon who performed the operation to put Archer's face on his. And well, it only gets more nuts from there.
