Double Tap to Zoom

Instagram is now accepting applications from users who wish to be verified. Announcing a trio of new security-minded features, Instagram confirmed it would be expanding access to its blue verification badge, which until now had only been spotted on the accounts of certain notable figures, brands, and businesses.

If you're the owner of an account with a large reach, you're now a few taps away from claiming that coveted checkmark. To apply, open the menu icon, hit "Settings," and tap the "Request Verification" option. Users will then be asked to provide their full name and relevant documents such as government-issued identification.

Official documents such as bills and tax forms can also be accepted, but they must match your legal name. After applying, Instagram will report back to you on the status of your application — although there is no guarantee of approval.

Instagram notes that it will review your account to confirm its "authenticity, uniqueness, completeness, and notability." Successful applicants must meet those criteria and abide by the platform’s terms of service.

Instagram is also adding an "About This Account" feature, in which users can learn more about other user accounts, including country of origin, date joined, former usernames, and ad information. The other update is support for third-party authenticator apps.
