Following the release of 2014's Godzilla reboot, another menacing monster from cinema's past is returning to theaters early next year — King Kong. The latest trailer for Kong: Skull Island has just been released and it's fair to say that 2017's ape looks like the biggest, baddest one we've ever seen.

By the looks of the new clip, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has harnessed his love for 1970s war films and combined it with the iconic beast to create a contemporary monster movie that balances the line between horror and comedy. The film is set to link up with the world we saw in Godzilla, but before that a group of soldiers and researchers find themselves on a mysterious island that they shouldn't be on — so what do they do? Bomb the shit out of it.

The trailer shows the soldiers dropping bombs left, right and center before Kong himself comes out to see what's going on. According to John C. Reilly's character (who looks hilarious, by the way), Kong is a peaceful ape who keeps to himself, but if you start to attack him or his island, he'll fight back with a vengeance.

The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, John Goodman and Samuel L. Jackson, and is slated for release on March 10. Check out the new trailer above, while you can see the original, which premiered at Comic-Con earlier this year, just below.
