Editor’s Notes: In celebration of New Balance “Grey Day,” Thursday, March 15, which honors the brand’s iconic 574 silhouette and the New Balance grey colorway that’s synonymous with the brand since its inception — the Boston-based sportswear label is launching a special “Legacy of Grey” pack, featuring two colorways of the 574 that takes inspiration from two of the most legendary grey styles, the original 990 and the 1300JP.
In 1982, the New Balance 990 was introduced as the first $100 running silhouette, and offered in grey suede, unlike the usual bright neons and pops of color that dominated the running industry at that time. It changed the industry impression of grey suede and became a color synonymous with New Balance.
The 1300JP on the other hand, was introduced in 1985, and it’s one of the most coveted New Balance styles that is re-introduced every 5 years. Praised by runners for its superior cushioning, unique grey color and authentic silhouette, its OG colorway is back for a limited time starting March 15.
Now, in related news, here’s how to buy New Balance’s shiny NB1 574 custom with Swarovski crystals.
