Nike's Slick Air Max Sandal Is the Answer to Boring Shoe Fatigue
It's an Air Max. It's a sandal. It's — an Air Max sandal? Move over, funky sneaker loafers, a new, weird, mixed-up shoe is joining the Swoosh’s program.
The Nike Air Max Koko is a bone-colored platform sandal with an Air Max unit at the back and a drawstring lace system. Yes, there's a lot going on here, but in the case of the Koko, it just works.
Signature Air Max traits pair nicely with standard sandal hallmarks. The Air Max Koko's big-bubble outsole joins a raised platform, turning a standard sandal into an honorary sneaker.
Available on the Nike website for $85, the Air Max Koko comes in muted black and cream colorways that tame the sandal's otherwise zany disposition.
Of course, this isn't the first time Nike has made an earnest plea to see more feet. From cushy clogs to metallic strappy sandals, Nike has more than dipped a toe or two into the world of beach-ready gems.
But as it stands, the Nike Air Max Koko is certainly the most delightfully odd sandal the Swoosh has to offer.
Beyond these muted colorways, the Nike Air Max Koko has also taken a trek through the tundra with a few full-fur uppers that are very UGG-coded. And the Swoosh even put the Air Max Koko in a full pair of blue jeans.
Putting furry accents or denim overalls on an open-toe sandal is a bit counterintuitive, but it's this exact type of footwear barminess that's largely driving the sneaker scene right now.
If it works, then it works.
