Editor’s Notes: A lot has been said about Nike’s so-called super shoes since the sportswear giant brought them to market back in 2017.

Since pioneering this new carbon-led world, Nike’s athletes have broken a myriad of world records, most notably Eliud Kipchoge’s marathon record (2:01:39) in Berlin in 2018. Hence the nickname: super shoes.

As is the case in the world of footwear, the others followed. Soon some of Nike’s biggest competitors were cladding their runners with carbon, in an attempt to compete. Alas, few did.

Following last year’s release of the Alphafly 2 — a shoe Kipchoge subsequently bettered his marathon world record wearing last year — Nike has now introduced the Vaporfly 3, the latest iteration of Alpha’s younger, more streamlined sibling.

Designed as an all-around racing shoe over any distance, the Vaporfly 3 features new reductive ZoomX midsole geometry and a breathable Flyknit yarn upper, as well as a full-length carbon fiber Flyplate underfoot.

“The Prototype colorway of the Vaporfly 3 is again a nod to our development process, where athlete and every day runner feedback critically informs and guides our innovation journey from start to finish,” explained Elliott Heath, Nike Running Senior Footwear Product Manager.

In a footwear world where boundaries are continuously pushed, Nike’s groundbreaking Vaporfly 3 does have you thinking: where can they go next? Let’s wait and see.
