For me, it takes a certain level of maturity to really appreciate the art of Mephisto is doing.

Founded in 1965 by German entrepreneur Martin Michaeli, the label — which had been quietly going about its business until the late 2010s — has found itself on the periphery of hyped footwear in recent years and garnered a sort of IYKYK status.

Collaborations, though, have undoubtedly raised the label’s capital. Thanks to link ups with Manchester’s finest Oi Polloi and streetwear stalwarts Patta (plus many more), Mephisto is certainly keeping its name in the ring when it comes to the congested world of footwear.

For 2023 Mephisto is reuniting with Patta and revisiting here it all began by dropping two summer-ready takes of its Rainbow in both red and white colorways.

Since the duo first linked up in 2017, they’ve been in cahoots on a number of occasions. From its subtle take on the latter’s Rainbow silhouette to the strappy dad sandals it dropped last year, Patta and Mephisto have kept the collaboration fire burning.

The Patta x Mephisto Rainbow silhouette has an unparalleled reputation due to its design, adaptability and comfort, leading it to achieve a cult status.

Patta has always been intrigued by the specific authenticity and aesthetic of the shoes, with the upcoming release Patta and Mephisto take the icon out of its original context and place it in a new setting.

Landing online on April 14, each shoe features a padded tongue, ankle lining, cushioned heel and a D-ring speed lacing system (four must-haves when it comes to a Mephisto Rainbow), as well as a SOFT-AIR midsole and AIR-RELAX technology.

While Patta’s Mephisto collabs might not reach the hype-level of say its Nike Air Max 1 drops, it’s certainly one of its best. Keep the good times coming, and keep the Mephistos rolling, I say.
