Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o are set to star in a movie written by Insecure's Issa Rae and directed by Ava DuVernay, according to the latest news from the Cannes Film Festival.
Like a lot of good (though mostly bad) things, the idea began on Twitter. One user commented on a picture of the two stars sitting front row at fashion week, writing "Rihanna looks like she scams rich white men and Lupita is the computer smart best friend that helps plan the scams."
After seeing the viral tweet, Nyong’o and Rihanna both voiced their support for the hypothetical project and DuVernay and Rae joined in. One thing led to another, and now it looks like the project is actually happening — and may hit our screens as early as 2018.
According to EW, Netflix won the rights to the film after an aggressive bidding war at the French film festival. No further details have been released so it's unclear whether the movie will stick to the original concept, but it's safe to say that anything this dream team collaborate on is sure to be gold.
