Wait, what? Lemme explain: TikTok is filled to the brim with content on running clubs, with some of the videos raking in millions of views. Why? Because, apparently, jogging in hoards is what you ought to be doing these days – but not for reasons to do with fitness exclusively.
In addition to summoning a shared sense of motivation and eventual accomplishment, it seems running clubs have been attributed a secondary purpose: Romance.
It doesn't – or shouldn't – surprise anyone, really. Symptomatic of post-pandemic cabin fever trauma, our chronically online lives, and what appears to be a subsequent, collective dating app fatigue, real life encounters with likeminded sports enthusiasts make a compelling case for marathon prep.
Now I'd hate to hereby cause an influx of creeps and fuckbois in the running clubs of your choosing, nor do I want yet another social activity to revolve around getting laid. However, in light of these ongoing developments, I consider it a responsibility of sorts, to point them out to you.
