Along with a host of other hip-hop artists, the 2000s were dominated by Eminem's peroxide-dyed locks and intentionally perverse rhymes. The Detroit rapper's single, "Stan" was also released in the year 2000, giving rise to a brand new way to throw shade at all kinds of creepy and stalker-ish behavior.
Oxford English Dictionary apparently also figured "Stan" had been around long enough to warrant being categorized as more than a loose slang word for a woefully obsessed individual. As of right now, the dictionary labels the word as an "informal noun" and defines it as "an overzealous and obsessive fan of a particular celebrity."
At this rate, it shouldn't be long before 21 Savage gets "Issa" a place in the OED too.
