To Stone Island, Denim Is A Discipline
After debuting their Denim Research line last fall, the Italian outerwear experts over at Stone Island are expanding on their treatment of jeans as a science.
In toying with fabric experimentation, garment dyeing, and material innovation, the project once again spawned a range of utilitarian high-tech garments the likes of which one wouldn't usually come by in indigo.
Key products from the capsule include two coach jackets, of course, as well as an anorak, and are modeled by actor Charlie Hunnam and Latin Grammy-winner Feid as part of the accompanying “Community as a Form of Research” campaign.
Corrosion-treated, bleached, and enzymatically washed, these extra special Stone Island items underwent an array of procedures to give them a distinct, unique appearance, whilst still keeping loyal to some of the 40+-year-old brand's signature trademarks, such as the iconic compass patch.
A newly introduced badge to signify the pieces’ belonging to the Denim Research initiative serves like the cherry on top, to commemorate the remarkable designs of a remarkable undertaking.
Remarkable not because it's surprising really, but impressive still, en revue of just how a high a bar was set by this edition's past-season predecessor: For the concept's kick-off, a more traditional jeans weave and tone was used for deconstructed, avant-garde military-esque bombers.
As per usual, the only thing, really, that could outshine these micro-collections comes from the Italians themselves: having recently presented its premier custom creation for rapper Dave, as well as what must be the smoothest, softest New Balance sneaker ever, Stone Island is on an absolute roll, to say the least.
“Like a rolling [Stone Island],” one might even say…
