Amazon Studios has released a gripping new trailer for its upcoming movie The Lost City of Z, starring Charlie Hunnam as a British explorer who ventures into the Amazon in search of an unknown civilization.

Based on author David Grann’s nonfiction bestseller, the movie tells the incredible true story of early-20th century explorer Percy Fawcett (Hunnam.) Fawcett led an expedition to find a previously unknown, advanced civilization that may have once inhabited the Amazon rainforest. His first attempt to find it failed when he contracted jungle fever, and, after he later returned with his son Jack in 1925, the pair was never seen again.

The movie depicts Fawcett's struggles as he is ridiculed by the scientific establishment, who regard indigenous populations as “savages.” Only with the support of his devoted wife (Sienna Miller), son (Tom Holland) and aide de camp (Robert Pattinson) is Fawcett able to return to the jungle in an attempt to prove his case, culminating in his mysterious disappearance.

Directed by James Gray (The Yards, The Immigrant,The Lost City of Z is set for release on April 14 in New York and Los Angeles, then April 21 nationwide through Amazon Studios and Bleecker Street. Watch the new trailer above, and the previous one down below.
