Netflix has announced a new original and thriller series dubbed The Rain, which will be premiering on the streaming platform in May, reports i-D.
The show takes place six years after a brutal virus has wiped out almost all of the human population, and follows two Danish siblings as they emerge from a safety bunker and set out on a danger-filled quest with other survivors.
According to Netflix, the additional synopsis reveals, "Free from their collective past and societal rules the group has the freedom to be who they want to be. -- In their struggle for survival, they discover that even in a post-apocalyptic world there’s still love, jealousy, coming of age and many of the problems they thought they’d left behind with the disappearance of the world they once knew."
Created by Jannik Tai Mosholt, Esben Toft Jacobsen, and Christian Potalivo, The Rain is Netflix’s first Danish original series.
Starring Alba August, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Lars Simonsen, Iben Hjejle, and more, The Rain hits Netflix on Friday, May 4.
In other Netflix news, ‘Stranger Things’ season 3 will feature more “Dad Steve” and middle school romance.
