A day after the official movie poster for Venom dropped on social media, the first teaser trailer has been unveiled, providing fans their first look at Tom Hardy’s take on the infamous anti-hero.

Venom takes inspiration from both the Lethal Protector and Planet of the Symbiotes comic books, telling the story of how the villain turned anti-hero is trapped in a push-pull relationship between good and evil.

Not much in regards to the plotline is given away in the teaser trailer, however, Tom Hardy’s voice-over and the dark scenes that follow promise a unique take on the stereotypical superhero story.

Venom first made an appearance when Topher Grace played the superhero as a supporting role in 2007’s Spider-Man 3. More than a decade later Tom Hardy has taken over the role and truly made it his own.

Speaking to fans at Brazil Comic-Con earlier this year, Hardy said: “I give you my word of honor that I’m going to do everything that I can to deliver the best Venom that I possibly can muster.” Judging by the short snippets in the trailer, he has done just that.

The movie is set to premiere on October 5. Watch the trailer above and then let us know what you think in the comments.
