Wes Fandersons (or Westicles, perhaps?), perk up: your chance to procure The Pen has come once more. As Highsnobiety can exclusively reveal, Montblanc is set to launch a limited-run restock of its viral “SCHREIBERLING,” the svelte fountain pen designed by acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson. After selling out its initial run of 1,969 pieces (numbered for the filmmaker’s birth year), Montblanc has staged an encore, providing fans of meticulously staged films oozing with candy-colored style (and pen-collecting stylophiles) another chance to claim this design marvel for themselves.

Living up to its name of the “Scribbler,” this most Andersonian object already won over enthusiasts last year (even inspiring its own Instagram fanpage) with its petite form and glossy green and yellow-hued finish. Measuring just 100mm — small enough for, say, a newly hired bellhop at a certain grand Eastern European hotel — the “SCHREIBERLING” updates Montblanc’s classic “Baby” pens of the 1910s and ‘20s, its now-collectible offering that made luxury pens perfectly pocketable.

Some might say size isn’t everything, and they’re right: turning an old-school writing object into a cultural hit involved more than just the right combination of lacquer. Like Anderson’s many cult-crossover films, his “SCHREIBERLING” pen works because of its intentionality. The collaboration restores the fountain pen's cultural legibility without eroding what makes it authentic to Montblanc or Anderson’s respective worlds.

For more than a century, the German manufacturer has lived up to its snowy Alpine name with a range of high-end pens that’ve turned mark-making into an act of elegance, while the film director has become the symmetrically composed king of storybook cinema. As the pendulum swings through a sea of slop toward disengagement with Big Tech’s doomscrolling devices, the sense of refinement and analog expression from a simple pen hits. One glide of its nib across paper feels bound to transport even the most hardened technophile back to that mythical “before time” when writing things down was the true luxury.

We’re calling it. This might be the most stylish writing utensil around for starting your screenplay (or at the very least, for jotting down a note reminding you to finally fold your laundry). In all its inky, analog glory, the “SCHREIBERLING” taps into a sense of authenticity you can literally hold in your hand—at least, if you can grab one before it’s gone upon release on January 15 via Montblanc's website
