American film auteurs Joel and Ethan Coen (aka the Coen Brothers) receive a careful examination of the various themes present in their work in this short video essay, titled “Coen Country.” The video edits together various scenes from the brothers’ work – including Fargo, No Country For Old Men and The Big Lebowski – so that characters talk to one another across each film, revealing the Coens’ dominant subject matters: identity, miscommunication and morality. The clip’s creator, Steven Benedict, states, “Taken as a trinity, these elements indicate that the Coens’ true subject is the search for value in a random and amoral universe.”
