Where the runway meets the street

Next up on the jam-packed NYFW schedule is McQ Alexander McQueen, the legendary London house’s younger, more accessible diffusion line. SS17 for McQ is all about dark, sultry vibes — trademark McQueenisms, really — and they’re manifested via corset-tied leather pieces, lush floral motifs, fishnet stockings, and a smattering of raw-hemmed denim pieces.

Lacy eveningwear, meanwhile, is toughened up thanks to some hard-as-nails studded boots. Speaking of lace, a key piece for this season is the white trucker jacket outfitted with panels of intricate embroidery, offset against studded workwear-style pockets. That dreamy clash of delicate and hard sums up the whole collection, and it’s the unsettling combination of morbid gothisms and wistful romance that the house’s founder was all about.
