Tokyo – In Focus

We travel to Japan to meet VANQUISH founder Ryo Ishikawa to take a closer look at his hand-painted leather biker jackets.

At the heart of Ishikawa’s customizations is a desire to connect with his customers: each hand-painted jacket is unique, and the tactile quality of the customization process adds a human touch to commerce that you just don’t get when buying a mass-produced product online.

His process is pretty simple and totally DIY, but the key element is the paint that he uses, which is ideally suited to leather and prevents it from chipping away immediately. Although it does wear down with time, Ishikawa says that that’s part of the charm.
