Move over, Psy, there’s a new YouTube sheriff in town! Wiz Khalifa just claimed the top spot for most-viewed YouTube video of all time with his collaboration with Charlie Puth “See You Again.”
The ballad created for the Furious 7 soundtrack has been streamed over 2,895,373,709 times. The song was written in tribute to actor Paul Walker, who starred in the Fast and the Furious franchise and died in a car accident in 2013 before the film was completed.
“See You Again” reached 1 billion views in only 6 months. Its number of views adds up to a time equivalent of of 21,759 years, as noted by BBC News. Creeping up on Khalifa’s record, however, is Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” which has racked up 2.5 billion views in just six months.
Psy’s “Gangnam Style” previously held the record, being the most-viewed video on YouTube for five years. The viral video was so popular that YouTube was forced to rewrite its code, and it “broke” the platform’s play counter. Revisit “Gangnam Style” below.
