Editor’s Notes: Following previous ACRONYM x Nike collaborations, including 2016’s Presto pack and a string of VaporMax Moc 2 colorways, a new pack of three Air Presto Mids has now been confirmed by retailers and ACRONYM founder Errolson Hugh.
The colorways are officially dubbed “Racer Pink/Photo Blue-White-Black,” “White/Black-Volt,” and “Grey/Black-White.” The tones are prominent on the upper, while each version has a chevron-like pattern across its TPU caging, a design element taken from the brands’ previous Air VaporMax Moc 2 collab.
Hugh revealed that the first Presto collaboration in 2016 started by taking a look at failed and overlooked Air Presto prototypes. After spotting a mid-height Presto, Hugh and NikeLab designers set about “ACRONYMizing” the sneaker.
“We took a function-driven, deconstructionist approach, using ACRONYM highlights and materials,” said Hugh, adding, “The Air Presto is an almost slipper-like shoe, and the idea of making a mid-cut version of it is counterintuitive. Mid-cuts usually give support and stability. We wanted to maintain the shoe’s original sense of ease but with additional performance.”
The overall design was completed in three hours but testing all the ACRONYM add-ons took six tries to make sure everything was performing perfectly.
Taking everything into consideration, the three colorways — both original and new — were decided based on the idea of having something for every type of wearer. Whether you’re opting for the louder “Racer Pink/Photo Blue” or the more versatile gray and black version, ACRONYM and Nike have you covered.
