Brand: Awake NY x ASICS

Model: GEL-NYC

Release Date: February 3, 2023

Price: €160

Buy: ASICS & Awake NY

Editor’s Notes: It’s only January and already ASICS and Awake have thrown their hat into the ring with sneaker of the year — well, two of them to be precise!

The duo — who have connected on a number of occasions — present two takes of the GEL-NYC sneaker, a silhouette paying tribute to New York City that combines elements from ASICS’ GEL-Nimbus 3, GEL-MC Plus V, and GEL-Cumulus 16.

After most recently connecting for takes on the GEL-LYTE III following multiple GEL-Kayanos and a GEL-Preleus back in 2020, Awake founder Angelo Baque now reconnects with the sneaker label for arguably their finest drop to-date.

Both GEL-NYCs arrive with an upper pleasingly-split between mesh, leather, and suede which sits atop ASICS’ epochal GEL sole.

Officially presented at Paris Fashion Week, the label’s Awake collaboration arrives simultaneously alongside a GEL-Sonoma 15-50 link-up with Andersson Bell and a colorful Brain Dead partnership.

For ASICS, 2022 was a bit busy on the collaboration front and if the first three weeks of this year are anything to go by, it’ll be much the same this time around too.
