Double Tap to Zoom

Virgil Abloh always had an unblinkered vision when it came to design. His indiscriminate passion for all areas of product design ranged from furniture to transport and, obviously, fashion. The designer’s archive is littered with forward-thinking, leftfield projects and the latest comes in the form of Cassina x Virgil Abloh.

Streetwear heads will probably already know Cassina, having worked with Supreme on an armchair for FW22. Beyond Supreme and Virgil Abloh, though, Cassina is a true icon in the design space. Since 1927, the Italian imprint has manifested its philosophy of innovation through high-end furniture.

Modular Imagination by Cassina and Virgil Abloh is the perfect example of what happens when two masterful groundbreakers collaborate. The collection consists of just two stool-like objects, but the possibilities of these modular designs far outnumber the two base pieces.

Cassina x Virgil Abloh is essentially LEGO furniture. A simple system of pegs and holes means that the two pieces can be fitted together in a range of permutations. Finished in black with orange legs, the collaboration uses Virgil Abloh’s familiar design language down to its color palette.

It’s the kind of stripped-back design that built Virgil’s cult following. His legacy lives on in this kind of simple and effective design.
