G-Shock is going back to its roots with its newest (or oldest?) model.

G-Shock's DW-5000R watch is a reproduction model of the DW-5000C, the first Casio G-Shock model released in 1983.

On the surface, the new DW-5000R watch is nearly identical to the original DW-5000C released over 40 years ago. The length and dimple positioning on the strap are exactly the same on the new timepiece.

However, the DW-5000R model has also been updated with a few techy features better suited for the present day. A high-brightness LED backlight replaces the OG version, and the bezel and band are made with bio-based resin, a material created to help reduce environmental impact.

Basically, the integrity of G-Shock's first watch is still there with a few much-needed updates.

The watch brand has covered major ground in the last four decades since the DW-5000C first came out. Even the last few years have brought Casio to new levels.

Collabs with Wu Tang Clan and BEAMS have pushed the timepiece brand's boundaries. Just this year, G-Shock and Marni teamed up for a playful spin on the 5600 series.

But, for those that prefer the classics, the G-Shock DW-5000R will be released on December 13 on Casio's website.
