The hype surrounding Pokemon Go might be officially floundering, but that still hasn't stopped big companies like Google from moving in and attempting to cut out their own slice of the pie. Somewhat covertly, the corporate giants have added a new "Catching Pokemon" function to its Timeline activity selector in Google Maps, as observed by Redditor @GoldLeader272.

Although the function does not notify users of the literal whereabouts of Pokemon (you'll have to go without that super rare Lapras for a while longer yet), it does allow them to inform friends of their creature catching habits, meaning reinforcements from the squad may drop in at any point. Still, with half of users having ditched Pokemon Go since its July peak, it's going to take a lot more than a novelty feature like this to save the ailing app.

Pokemon Go was arguably the defining craze of summer 2016. Catch up with some of the most insane stories here.
