Nearly a month after news first leaked, Instagram has introduced its new "camera-first" messaging app. Threads is a standalone app meant to share photos, videos, messages, Stories, and more with your Instagram close friends list. You can choose who contacts you on Threads, making it more private than Instagram proper.

Threads opens directly to a camera and features addable shortcuts, allowing you to share photos and videos in just two taps. You can also update your status, using recommendations like "Studying" or make your own custom status. It can also auto-update if you opt in, which will let your friends know if you're "On the move," for example. Direct messages with your Close Friends will still appear in your Instagram app, alongside Threads.

Threads begins rolling out globally today, so keep your eye out on your respective app store for availability.
