The winners of the 2017 iPhone photography awards have been announced, and a haunting photograph of two Iraqi children alone on the streets of Qayyarah, near Mosul, has won the Grand Prize.

Taken using an iPhone 6s, the photograph was shot in 2016 by Sebastiano Tomada as Iraqi forces launched an attack to retake Mosul from ISIS control. Smoke from nearby blazing oil wells and retreating soldiers can both be seen in the background.

The Photographer of the Year awards were handed to Brenda O Se, Yeow-Kwang Yeo and Kuanglong Zhang, who came first, second and third, respectively.

iPhone photographers from all around the world submitted entries, which the panel whittled down to 50 awards across categories including Portrait, Still Life, Animals and Abstract. Check out a selection above.
