It's been a long time coming, but John Mayer's first-ever watch collaboration is finally on the way. Mayer, a well-known watch enthusiast, has partnered with HODINKEE and Casio G-SHOCK to bring the project to fruition, one that centers around the standout 6900 model.

The collaborative G-SHOCK Ref 6900 was designed by Mayer himself, drawing inspiration from the Casiotone SK-5 keyboard he played in his early years.

“When Casio approached me about the possibility of working together on a G-SHOCK, it actually timed out really well," said Mayer. “I had already been pretty deep into wearing the 'Mudmaster' models, and something felt cosmically right about a G-SHOCK being the first watch collab I’ve ever done."

"Casio keyboards came to mind as much as the watches did. Then I remembered how important the Casiotone SK-5 was in my life, and it got exciting really fast," he added. "It’s the perfect bridge between my double life as a musician and watch enthusiast."

The textured slate gray tone of the watch's case and strap is a direct nod to the Casio keyboard, while the teal “G-SHOCK” at 12 o’clock and the yellow lettering around the bezel reference the 1980s. From there, the 6900 boasts G-SHOCK’s iconic triple-graph face design, while featuring a 53.2mm resin case and Japanese-made quartz movement. Functions range from a 24-hour clock, stopwatch, and 24-hour countdown timer, to a multi-functional alarm, flash alert, and EL backlight.

The limited edition Casio G-SHOCK Ref 6900 by John Mayer is currently available for $180 through shop.hodinkee.com, gshock.com, G-SHOCK Soho, and select G-SHOCK retailers.
