It's impossible not to be overwhelmed by the sheer might of Lie Ning's voice. It flows with a richness that soothes the ears like a healing salve, conveying strength even in moments of subtlety. It's frankly unbelievable (and unfair) that he wields such a tremendous sound as a fresh-faced 22-year old.
After launching with his debut single "Tonight," the Berlin-based artist has now dropped his sophomore outing: "Secret Island." Take a listen to the gorgeous track along with its accompanying video below.
"I wrote 'Secret Island' at a very exciting moment in my life," Ning tells Highsnobiety via email. "I just signed my first label contract, I met a producer that understood how I wanted to pursue my artistic vision, and an old love reentered my field of view.
In this overwhelmingly blissful period, I started getting anxious about losing it again. I dreamed of a place where I could preserve all the love that was given to me. The song combines my enthusiastic hunger for a perfect bubble and the actuality of the sea. Water as an element has always been one of my biggest inspirations. How ambivalent, versatile, and transformative that element can be is breathtaking."
Stay tuned for Lie Ning's debut EP 'Traffic Songs for the Inbetweens' to arrive in October, and stream "Secret Island" here. Take a look at lead single "Tonight" below.
