Renowned industrial designer, Marc Newson has quite a resume, as his work spans from aircraft design, product design, furniture design, jewelry and clothing.

Now delving into footwear through a partnership with Nike, their relationship actually began in 2000 with the Nike Zvezdochka, which was revived in 2014 in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Feeding off each other’s creations, Nike’s latest innovation with the VaporMax intrigued Newson to create his own twist of the newly-introduced silhouette.

“The overwhelming emotion when you see this thing for the first time is tactile. You want to touch it and squeeze it and figure out how it works,” he says of VaporMax. “It is a mesmerizing thing really.”

Defined by the technical Air VaporMax platform, Newson’s design blends green Flyknit and tan leather throughout its upper for a premium lifestyle appeal. As explained by Newson, the juxtaposition of skills exemplifies this model, with cross-stitching reflective of a traditional handcraft, while the knit and sole unit consist of technical innovations.

Releasing on March 26, view an in-depth look of the Marc Newson x NikeLab Air VaporMax here.
