Nicki Minaj recently spoke out about being in a toxic relationship in the past. In a series of candid tweets, the rapper detailed her own experiences with abuse and urged her fans to lift up women in similar situations, while offering victims advice on how to spot red flags and practice self-love.

Minaj recalled toxic behaviors she observed in her childhood that were repeated in her adult relationships, writing "I saw my parents fight & argue non stop & never divorce, so I thought this was normal behavior." She also reveals how a past relationship turned violent: "I remember being so afraid to speak cuz I never knew when that person would be in a particular mood and I could maybe say one wrong thing that would get me hit."

Nicki Minaj, who is currently engaged, admits she is now in a much better place, saying she feels "lifted up, safe, appreciated & unconditionally loved." You can read her tweets about her experiences with abusive relationships below.

If you or someone you know is a victim of violence, threats, or abuse at home, there are organizations you can contact for help and advice. Visit The Hotline in the US and the National Domestic Violence Helpline in the UK for more information.
