What We’re Saying: Nike is drumming up excitement for Air Max Day 2021 by previewing the latest Nike Air Max Pre-Day model ahead of its release next week. The forthcoming drop is equal parts ’70s nostalgia – the silhouette references the Daybreak from Nike's running shoe glory years – and contemporary, thanks to the latest Air Manufacturing Innovation (Air MI).

The lime green recycled polyester mesh upper is met with tonal ripstop, suede paneling, a black matte swoosh, and a new fully exposed heel Air bag –  the same kind used in current Air Max 1s, Air Max 90s, Air Jordan IIIs, IVs, Vs and VIs.

The shoe's arresting aesthetic is further developed by drawing attention to the sneaker's negative space via the new fully exposed air unit, which now sits between the midsole and outsole, surrounded by pockets of air.

In addition to delivering a strong visual element, the new Air MI promises a more pronounced "bounce" by removing the layers between the foot and the air and placing the unit between two harder surfaces.
