Nike’s Rugged GORE-TEX Dunk Stays Fly Even in Bad Weather
A GORE-TEX sneaker is an easy dunk. Or at least a Nike one. Nike’s 1985 Dunk gets a weatherproof upgrade for colder, less predictable conditions.
The GORE-TEX Dunk adds all-weather muscle to one of the brand’s most recognizable shoes without asking it to become something else.
Nike’s Dunk Low GORE-TEX sneaker seals the upper in leather and lines the interior with a waterproof GORE-TEX membrane, keeping feet dry through rain and slush.
Even the toe box perforations are closed, meaning the Dunk, even in its icy white and grey colorway, doesn’t have to worry about puddles ruining its day. An enhanced traction pattern underfoot helps keep things steady on wet surfaces.
Nike and GORE-TEX go back decades, weatherproofing everything from ACG hikers to rugged Jordan 1s.
More recently, GORE-TEX Dunks have appeared in colorways like “Light Crimson” leather and an orange-and-wheat option built for fall, proving that utility doesn’t have to come at the expense of looks.
Available now on Nike’s website for $150, the GORE-TEX Dunk joins a growing family of low-profile, all-weather staples, including waterproof takes on the Air Force 1 and past GORE-TEX Dunk releases. These are sneakers puddles hate to see coming.
As the Dunk turns 40, GORE-TEX feels like a natural progression. From basketball to skate culture and collaborations with Supreme, Stüssy, Virgil Abloh, and Travis Scott, the Dunk has done it all. Waterproofing it just makes sense.
