No Vacancy Inn founder Tremaine Emory (aka @denimtears) yesterday announced that the brand plans to give away its new “Water and WiFi” New Balance 990v3 collab via a series of essay-writing competitions ahead of the sneaker’s release on May 31.

In the Instagram post below, Emory prompted kids under the age of 18 to write an essay relating to a recent New York Times article about what reparations for slavery might look like in 2019. In the post’s caption, Emory wrote, “The Most engaging essay written in regards to the above article( link in bio) gets a free pair of water & wifi 990’s.”

Emory also said he would consider running similar essay competitions dealing with topics such as the environment, Brexit, women’s rights, and LGBT+ rights ahead of the shoe’s release. He has come good on that promise with a new Instagram post that asks kids under 18 to write an essay on British politics and Brexit in general. Check it out below.

The deadline for the slavery reparations essay competition has already passed, as it was midnight PST last night. The deadline for the new essay competition is midnight PST today.
