Studio Ghibli is slated to release a new film called Aya to Majo in 2020. News comes as the legendary studio announced earlier in the year that it was working on two movies for 2020.

Aya to Majo, which translates to Aya and the Witch in English, is directed by Hayao Miyazaki's son, Goro Miyazaki, as Hayao is overseeing the project. The picture is based on a novel by Diana Wynne Jones, the author of the book that inspired 2004 Studio Ghibli film, Howl’s Moving Castle.

Aya to Majo tells the story of an orphan by the name of Aya, who is adopted by a witch. Upon arriving to her new home, she soon learns the house is filled with magic.

The movie was originally scheduled to premiere at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival until Covid-19 royally disrupted the film industry. Now, Aya to Majo will release in Japan later this year, followed by availability in theaters across the globe months later.
