A24’s upcoming stripper movie Zola, has appointed burgeoning actress Taylour Paige as the lead star, portraying 20-year-old stripper Aziah Wellsrose, aka Zola, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Back in 2015, Aziah Wellsrose published an epic story of a two-day adventure with a sex worker, the sex worker’s boyfriend and a pimp that went viral on social media, which eventually drew the attention of many celebrities such as Ava DuVernay, Missy Elliot, Solange Knowles and more.
Janicza Bravo is set to direct the film from a script by playwright Jeremy O. Harris, Andrew Neel and Mike Roberts. In addition, it will also be based on the Rolling Stone piece "Zola Tells All: The Real Story Behind the Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted."
Taylour Paige was most recently featured in Matthew McConaughey's White Boy Rick, as production on Zola is slated to begin this fall. For the full story, head over to The Hollywood Reporter.
