How many brown pieces do you have in your wardrobe? I'll hazard a guess at not that many. You're not alone, though. It's a shade often overlooked. Maybe due to the fact that when stood alone in a store it doesn't really pop. Maybe due to the fact it's pretty damn hard to style.

But living up to the sartorial reference point he has become, Tyler, the Creator was out in New York yesterday, dining with Frank Ocean, as you do, and teaching us all a lesson in how to put a tonal brown fit together without looking terrible.

Instead of hiding this oft-downtrodden color behind brighter pieces, Tyler made it the star of the show. He centered the tonal fit around a puffer jacket from a past Lemaire Uniqlo U collection, pairing it up with a darker-toned pair of pants down below. He didn't stop there with the earthy palette. The grammy-winning artist and GOLF le FLEUR* visionary went for a brown hunter flap cap and neckerchief up top. Overdoing it in all the right ways, once again.

There's a knack to getting tonal outfits right, particularly when it comes to colors like brown. What's needed is balance and Tyler put exactly that into practice. He contrasted his otherwise-earthy look with a bright blue GOLF le FLEUR* cardigan and a crisp white tee, achieving drool-worthy color combination.

If this all has you inspired to look beyond the usual base hues of black, white, and navy this spring, then we've picked out some of our favorite pieces of the season to get the look with. From spring-appropriate jackets from the likes of Carhartt to pants by Issey Miyake, we've rounded up the best brown clothing and accessories around, as well as some items to add some vital contrast with.
