First spotted last year, the SS19 Joy Division-inspired coat from JohnUNDERCOVER — a sub-line of Jun Takahashi's legendary UNDERCOVER — just released online.
The coat sports a painting by French artist Jean-François Jambol which was used as the cover art for Joy Division's 1980 Licht und Blindheit (German for Light and Blindness) EP. The artwork depicts a hooded figure looking out over a mountain scene, with the jacket's shape mirroring that of the style worn in the painting.
Since UNDERCOVER was established in the early ’90s, brand founder Jun Takahashi has cited music as one of his primary inspirations. Takahashi's love for Joy Division is no secret. In previous collections, he's drawn design elements from the band's Unknown Pleasures album, the track "Atmosphere," and created a T-shirt with Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis' face on it.
The coat is made from 100 percent cotton and features zip-up and drawstring closures, front flap pockets, a fishtail hem, and adjustable cuffs.
