From Timothée Chalamet rocking the FW19 Louis Vuitton attention-grabbing harness at the Golden Globes to Travis Scott sporting the belt during the Super Bowl halftime performance, Virgil Abloh‘s Louis Vuitton line is becoming the most recognizable menswear collection at the moment. As the hype continues to rise for LV’s artistic director, the French fashion house drops the lookbook for the first Men’s Fall/Winter 2019 pre-collection by Virgil.
The line continues the vocabulary of Abloh’s “everyday wear” design aesthetic, creating trendy and timeless garments that are functional and accessible with every wardrobe.
“I see and understand the vitality of clothes that people actually wear,” Abloh tells Vogue. “The pre-collection was a safe haven to test out ideas, to start defining that palette.”
Inspired by the cultural melting pot of Tokyo, the pre-collection combines timeless silhouettes reminiscent of Japanese public service attire with modern sportswear design. Graphics, logos, and colors pay homage to the countries motorsport aesthetic that are heavily featured on windbreakers and tees. Abloh mixes the playfulness of the tops with outerwear staples like trench coats and parkas with high-end materials including leather and a special rain-coating fabric. He also combines classic pieces including the three-piece suit with the viral harnesses to reinvent the look for the new age.
In addition, LV also dropped a video featuring Abloh diving into what clothing means to him, and opening up about being inspired by Jamiroquai and Kurt Cobain. Watch below, and take a closer look at Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Fall/Winter 2019 pre-collection in the gallery above.
