Ahead of his “Figures of Speech” exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Virgil Abloh has shared a shot of what we assume is a new Louis Vuitton sneaker. And the kick in question carries a couple of elements that recall the sneakers Abloh’s friend and former mentor Kanye West designed for Louis Vuitton and Nike.
The new shoe is dressed in an all-over hi-vis orange colorway, reminiscent of West’s iconic Nike Air Yeezy 2 "Red October," while the colorway, achilles notch, exaggerated padded tongue, and suede paneling over the leather upper carry a vibe reminiscent of the artist's 2009 Louis Vuitton Don. Abloh has added a signature flourish of his own to the new shoe: a rubber Louis Vuitton zip tie akin to the ones the designer uses with OFF-WHITE.
There is no official word about the shoe's release, although it's possible the sneaker will be available at the special Virgil Abloh “Church & State” pop-up at the MCA, which will offer a number of Abloh-related products created exclusively for the museum.
