Scotch & Soda enter 2016 with a healthy dose of wanderlust aimed at the four corners of the globe, lacing their SS16 collections with a palpable senses of adventure and travel.
For their Scotch & Soda menswear line, looks derive from four distinct, eccentric areas of inspiration spanning urban bazaars, "beach royalty," "safari rave" culture and Tokyo cults. For the first, strong prints drawing from ideas of Indian and Aztec heritages mix in a color palette of Masala Red, Indian Blue and Saffron. Prints and strong graphics off-set with damaged fringing and raw edges herald the beach royalty aesthetic, in a nod to iconic images of 20th century rebelliousness, while psychedelic '70s and themes witnesses in abstract African art clash with military pieces edged with sportswear and collegiate styles in the safari rave look. Finally the Tokyo cult aesthetic reissues classic Japanese prints and pieces (think: kimonos) only to then be offset with pieces crafted from technical fabrics (mesh and neoprene), or reworked into modern silhouettes.
The collections follow on from Scotch & Soda's evocative "The Story of Things" campaign, a mini-film saga in two installments telling the familial story between two adventurous siblings. If the nothing else, the campaign demonstrated how expertly the multifaceted Amsterdam-based brand could craft a modern narrative of travel, design and fashion, with a look and feel of genuine cinematic quality.
As part of the campaign, the label also gave Highsnobiety readers the chance to rent the Amsterdam town-house apartment featured in the second installment of "The Story of Things." Our photographers were given exclusive access to "Lola's apartment," which you can rent on Airbnb.
