Stranger Things may have just premiered on Netflix, but the supernatural drama is already being referred to as the new “it” television show. And while it may be a little early to begin thinking about a possible (probable) second season, show creators Matt and Ross Duffer sat down with Variety to dish on what is to come.
First off, they revealed that the second season would act as a sequel to the storyline of season one. “We have all this stuff that we just didn’t have time for, or we didn’t feel like we needed to get into in season one, because of the main tension of Will,” he added. “We have that whole other world that we haven’t fully explored in this season, and that was very purposeful.”
Season 2 would also keep things from the point of view of the original characters, further developing the unexplored world from the first season.
“We don’t answer all the questions by the end of the season — there are definitely some dangling threads,” Ross explained. “The hope is that it feels satisfying but that we left room and that if people respond to it we can go back into this world. But if we do get to go back, it’s not a second season as much as a sequel.”
Additionally, in the first week after its release, Netflix’s Stranger Things has overtaken Orange is the New Black as the most popular digital original series.
