There are plenty of ways to drop eight figures, but none quite as cool as this. After going on sale at an auction in Paris, this glorious Porsche 959 Sport fetched an eye-watering $2.08 million — a new world record for this particular model.

The 959 enjoyed its heyday in the ’80s and was one of the foremost supercars of its era. Only 345 were ever built, and only 29 were Sport models equipped with a roll cage, meaning it weighed 220 pounds less than other Komfort versions.

As you can probably glean just by looking at it, this thing can move. Twin turbochargers aid the 2.8-liter flat-6 engine and push it to make 450 horsepower. Frighteningly, the car is able reach 0-60 mph in around 3.5 seconds — totally ridiculous stats for its era. Listen to its engine revving up in the videos below. It’s basically ASMR for petrol heads.

We’ve no idea who the buyer was, but it’s fair to say this ride is going to be worth every penny.

Earlier in the week, we took a look at the most jaw-dropping Mercedes-Maybach G Class yet.
