SSENSE

After this year we didn't think it could get much more Y2K, but once again, we were proven wrong by Blumarine and Hello Kitty, who have teamed up for an exclusive capsule collection.

Over the past few months we've seen Supreme collaborate with Tiffany & Co. on a jewelry collection, GCDS create a Bratz doll, and more. 2000s fashion has officially been luxury-fied.

Of course, the Hello Kitty x Blumarine range is all about pink, pink, and pink, and features some nostalgic design cues that are synonymous with the style decade. Tiny cardigans with a fur collar, one-shoulder tops, tight denim skirts, low-rise jeans, bedazzled tees – you name it – it's all there.

For those of us that grew up in the 2000s, Hello Kitty was everywhere. I specifically remember putting little stickers all over my flip phone, wearing logo tanks with the famous feline, and obsessing over anything pink. To me, Blumarine's collaboration really hits the spot, and the added element of nostalgia that the collection brings makes it an instant success.

In addition to the apparel, the clothes are styled with a big belt featuring a metal Hello Kitty buckle, a pink furry hat, as well as a chain necklace with the recognizable cat – all in, you guessed it, hues of pink.

For those of us who are riding that Y2K wave into 2022, the collection is currently available online at SSENSE, where the pieces start at £635. One thing is for sure, Hello Kitty certainly never cost that much back in the day.

With Hello Kitty making a return (did she ever really disappear, though?) we're waiting for other famous characters to have their big resurgence. Paul Frank, I'm looking at you.
